Who's Teaching You

Not a TA. Not a Generalist Tutor.
A Research Executive Who Builds.

From 2018 to 2025, Michael held senior R&D roles across three MLB organizations: Philadelphia Phillies (Lead Quantitative Analyst), Detroit Tigers (Principal Quantitative Analyst), and Miami Marlins (Special Assistant, R&D). He built probabilistic forecasting systems for player performance, injury risk, and long-term value, and prototyped interactive tools that coaches, scouts, and executives actually used.

As Founder of AthlyticZ, he built a global data science platform training students and professionals from 15+ countries. He leads product, engineering, and content strategy, and co-designed the LMS architecture powering cloud-based coding environments in the browser.

The Weekly Loop

Every Week You Ship Something

Not "review the notes." Not "finish the reading." You build, get reviewed, and tag a release. Every single week.

1

Learn

Work through course modules on the LMS. Video, code exercises, quizzes, cloud IDE. At your pace.

2

Build

Turn lessons into scoped tasks in your repo. A model, a pipeline, a UI component. We keep scope realistic.

3

Review

Post progress in Slack. Get inline PR feedback on GitHub. We enforce reproducibility, naming, and structure.

4

Ship

Tag a release. Update the README. Record a short demo. Every sprint produces a portfolio artifact.

Who We Work With

Advanced High School Through Industry PhDs

Every engagement is scoped to where you are and where you want to go. These are real examples of the range of students we coach.

High School / Pre-College

Build a Portfolio Before You Apply

Ambitious students who want to stand out in college admissions. We teach R or Python from scratch, build real projects, deploy a Shiny app, and set up a GitHub portfolio. You leave with proof of work that no other applicant has.

Graduate Students & Career Changers

Go From Coursework to Job-Ready

MS and PhD students who can run a regression but can't deploy a model. Career changers who need to build a technical portfolio fast. We fill the gap between academic stats and production data science: Git, Shiny, Stan, Docker, CI/CD.

Industry Professionals

Level Up on Specific Technical Skills

Working analysts and data scientists who need to go deeper. Bayesian modeling in Stan for a rugby league client. Production Shiny app architecture. LLM integration workflows. We scope a project around your actual work and build it together.

Your Accountability System

Slack. Notion. GitHub. Not Just Zoom Calls.

The infrastructure around the coaching is what makes it work. You're not just meeting once a week and hoping for the best.

Slack code review

Private Slack Channel

Async code review, quick design decisions, debugging help, and nudges toward reproducible habits. You're never waiting until the next session to get unblocked.

Notion sprint board

Notion Sprint Board

Weekly sprints that tie course modules to project work. Clear status, due dates, and deliverables. You learn professional project management alongside data science.

GitHub PR review

GitHub PRs & Code Review

Every build goes through structured PR review. Tests, naming, structure, reproducibility. Tagged releases and clean READMEs. Your Git history becomes your resume.

Tracks

Choose a Track. We Layer Coaching on Top.

Pick the track that matches your goals. We pair it with AthlyticZ course access, live sessions, and project work scoped to your level.

Bayesian Predictive Modeling in Stan

Hierarchical models, priors, MCMC diagnostics, player projections, and production model pipelines.

Shiny App Development

From first app to production deployment. Modules, reactivity, testing, CI/CD, Posit Connect, and mobile builds.

Machine Learning in R and Python

Supervised and unsupervised methods. Feature engineering, cross-validation, model selection, and deployment.

AI and LLM Workflows with Claude Code

Rapid app prototyping, agentic coding, document intelligence, and practical AI integration.

Data Science Jumpstart in R or Python

For beginners. Tidyverse or Pandas, data wrangling, visualization, communication, and your first portfolio project.

Custom Track

Have something specific in mind? We scope a custom engagement around your project, your data, and your goals.

Posit New With Our Posit Partnership

Every Session Builds Into Your Own Private Course

Starting this summer, every live coaching session auto-renders into a private course shell on our platform. You don't just have notes in a Google Doc. You have a real, reviewable, async course built from your own sessions.

Session Notes

Every session's code, explanations, and materials render into navigable course content. Revisit anything, anytime.

Recordings

Live sessions are recorded and archived in your private course shell. Review the exact moment a concept clicked.

Cloud IDE

Your own Positron environment on Posit Workbench, provisioned per session. Code from anywhere. Nothing to install.

By the end of your engagement, you don't just have a portfolio. You have a personal course library documenting everything you learned, every model you built, and every session you had. It's yours to keep.

Summer 2026: Expanding Capacity

Under our new partnership with Posit, we're scaling the 1-on-1 coaching program this summer. We plan to bring on 4-5 of our instructors from our network of PhD-level practitioners and open-source experts to offer more coaching slots. Same sprint model, same infrastructure, same standards. More availability.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Who teaches the 1-on-1 sessions?
Dr. Michael S. Czahor. PhD in Statistics from Iowa State University (with Honors). From 2018-2025, he held senior R&D roles across three MLB organizations: Lead Quantitative Analyst with the Philadelphia Phillies, Principal Quantitative Analyst with the Detroit Tigers, and Special Assistant, R&D with the Miami Marlins. He's an NSF IGERT Fellow (2013-2018), ASME Educator Award winner, and recipient of Iowa State's Teaching Excellence Award in Statistics. Advisory board member for the M.S. in Sports Analytics at Boston College and the MS in Applied Sport Science Analytics at Lasell University. Michael teaches every private engagement personally. Starting summer 2026, we're expanding with 4-5 additional instructors from our PhD-level network under our Posit partnership.
I'm a complete beginner. Is this for me?
Yes. We've coached advanced high school students who've never written a line of code through to deploying their first production Shiny app. The Data Science Jumpstart track starts from zero. We meet you where you are.
I'm an experienced data scientist. What would I get out of this?
We've worked with industry professionals and PhDs who needed to go deep on specific skills: Bayesian modeling in Stan for a client project, production Shiny architecture, LLM workflow integration. We scope a custom engagement around your actual work and build it together. You get a sparring partner, not a tutor.
Do you work on non-sports projects?
Absolutely. We've scoped projects in rugby league analytics, clinical biostatistics, financial modeling, and pure software engineering. The technical skills transfer. If your project involves R, Python, Stan, Shiny, or data modeling, we can work with you regardless of the domain.
How is this different from Consulting?
Consulting is when you hire us to build something for you. Coaching is when we build you. You do the work, we guide, review, and push you. The deliverable is your growth, your portfolio, and your skills. Most coaching students end up not needing us anymore. That's the goal.
What about group coaching?
We also run small-group focus groups (up to 8 people) that follow the same sprint model at a lower price point. Same Slack, Notion, and Git infrastructure. Same course access. The difference is shared office hours instead of 1-on-1 live sessions. Ask about this on the fit call if group format interests you.

Tell Us Where You Are and Where You Want to Go.

15-minute fit call. We'll recommend a track, outline milestones, and show you examples of projects that got interviews.
