Modern data science is built by one group of people and taught by another. We closed that gap: 23 working practitioners — the ones who maintain the tools and do the work — teaching live.
The gap, seen from both sides of the field
Inside professional sports organizations, analysts have elite compute, tooling, and data to build real models. Outside, capable people are kept from that same craft — not for lack of talent, but for lack of access to the people who actually do the work.
AthlyticZ closes that gap the way that works: we bring the practitioners in to teach. The maintainers, the front-office analysts, and the working data scientists, teaching the methods they ship — live, and hands-on.
Who teaches here is the whole point
The 23 people teaching at AthlyticZ include the maintainer of Apache Arrow, a Vanderbilt biostatistician, a Wharton lecturer, analysts who run predictive modeling for MLB front offices, and the co-creator of shinyMobile. When you learn here, you learn from the person who does it for a living.
The team behind it
A small team runs AthlyticZ day to day — and each of them does the work they teach.
Michael founded AthlyticZ after 7+ years of MLB front-office R&D across the Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, and Miami Marlins. Michael holds a dual PhD in Statistics and Wind Engineering (Iowa State, NSF Fellow).
